Reporting to the Executive Director for the Learning and Teaching Collaborative, the Assessment & Education Innovation Specialist supports campus-wide academic assessment and program accreditation projects charged by the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs. The person in this position will also provide consultative services for unit-level academic assessment efforts aligned with UW-Bothell’s mission of expanding access to excellence in higher education through innovative and creative curricula, interdisciplinary teaching and research, and a dynamic community of multicultural learning.

Assessment of Campus-wide Learning Goals:
  • Supports the Academic Affairs Division and faculty governance with the intentional improvement of student learning through data-informed processes that examine learning outcomes within a diverse student population context.
  • Collaborates with relevant units to develop culturally-responsive assessment practices associated with student learning outcomes under the supervision of the Executive Director.
  • Supports Schools and designated Academic Affairs sub-units as they plan and develop culturally-responsive assessment practices associated with the campus-wide student learning outcomes.
  • Supports Academic Affairs with culturally-responsive assessment for periodic campus-wide program reviews related to the campus-wide learning goals.
  • Develops and implements data-sharing agreements and processes between IR and Academic Affairs.
  • Works collaboratively across the tri-campus system to complete the variety of complex tasks necessary to maintain institutional accreditation.

    Consultative Services to Support School-Specific Accreditation and Learning Outcome Assessment:
  • Provides guidance to Schools as they develop student learning outcomes specific to their programs.
  • Provides guidance to Schools for developing culturally-responsive assessment practices associated with student learning outcomes specific to their programs.
  • Provides guidance to Schools as they develop and implement robust and culturally-responsive methods to evaluate teaching that align with the Faculty Code and best practices.
  • Provides guidance to Schools as they develop and implement data-sharing agreements and processes between Institutional Research and Schools.

    Supports the Campus Community to Successfully Achieve Educational Assessment, Innovation, and Accreditation Goals:
  • Supports Academic Affairs with culturally-responsive assessment associated with institutional grants and other organizational development efforts.
  • Presents assessment results to stakeholders.
  • Works collaboratively with leadership to facilitate appropriate responses and continuous improvement to findings from the prioritized assessments.
  • Supports training for faculty and staff on culturally-responsive assessment techniques and practices to develop their assessment and evaluation competencies.
  • Serves as the assessment liaison for the campus with identified points of contact within each Academic Affairs unit and faculty governance.
  • Serves on relevant standing and ad-hoc campus-wide committees.
  • Liaises with tri-campus assessment community as needed.
  • Continues professional development and actively contributes to the higher education assessment profession.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant discipline.
  • At least 4 years of experience in higher education that includes practice with the following:
    o Best practices in higher education academic assessment and evaluation methodologies grounded in antiracist and social justice principles.
    o Accreditation requirements for higher education.
    o Intermediate quantitative data collection and analysis skills including statistical software.
    o Intermediate qualitative data collection and analysis techniques including focus groups, in-depth interviews, survey design, and qualitative data software (e.g., Atlas TI, NVivo)
    o Data management and data-sharing best practice.

    Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements.

  • Possess advanced knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion as an integrated part of assessment in higher education.
  • Possess advanced to expert interpersonal skills to promote effective and inclusive collaboration that is mindful of the population(s) being served and involves them in the process of assessment.
  • Able to explain (in writing and verbally) assessment processes and outcomes to non-specialists, as well as prepare reports for various audiences.
  • Able to manage multiple complex tasks without direct supervision.
  • Aware of assessment requirements for international accreditation bodies such as AACSB and ABET.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with internal and external diverse constituents including students, faculty, and staff.

  • Master’s degree or higher in Educational Assessment and Evaluation, Higher Education Administration, Institutional Effectiveness, Educational Psychology, or a closely related field.
