We are encouraging applications for a Postdoctoral Associate to carry out experimental investigations on the molecular-ion aspect of the quantum network project.

Who We Are

The Professional Research Experience Program (PREP) is a special partnership between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the University of Colorado Boulder. PREP provides research opportunities to CU undergraduate and graduate students, as well as researchers with a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in NIST labs to gain research experience alongside NIST scientists.

The particular group that needs a researcher is the Ion Storage Group under the Time and Frequency Division at NIST.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Develop frequency-comb-based light source for identification and characterization of molecular transitions, especially in the telecom range, and for coherent manipulation of molecular vibrations.
  • Chip in to daily lab operations.
  • Advise junior colleagues.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of experimental procedure and analyze experimental results.
  • Publish research outcomes and present results in scientific meetings.


What We Can Offer

The salary range is $67,000 - $72,000 and will be based upon relevant background and experience.

What We Require

  • A Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Physics, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in experimental atomic, molecular, and optical physics. In particular, quantum mechanical control in atomic and/or molecular physics.


What We Would Like You To Have

  • Experience in experimental design and carrying out experimental work in a trapped molecular ion laboratory.
