The Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga College of Health, Education and Professional Studies invites applications for the position of 12-month Program Manager for the Master of Public Health beginning August 2021.

The successful candidate will also be expected to work closely with the Program Director in contributing to the development of the Master of Public Health (MPH) program and the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accreditation process. The candidate will advise, mentor, and support the MPH Program Director and faculty in day-to-day tasks. Working collaboratively and cooperatively with faculty and staff within the department, college, and across campus is essential. The candidate will assist and support in the areas of recruitment and admissions by contacting undergraduate program directors & pre-health advisors (emails, calls & mailings), recruitment fairs (graduate school & health career fairs), presentations/talks (undergraduate classes, student clubs, & health department meetings), communications (website, pamphlet, social media, promotional items, blast emails, & applicant inquiries), and admissions and on-boarding student process (pre-matriculation, registration, & orientation).

The candidate will also provide additional support in the following areas: attend accrediting body webinars & meetings, data collection (maintain spreadsheets, student profiles, & faculty updates), self-study documentation preparation and submission, and assist the program as needed. The MPH Program Manager will also serve as the initial advisor for incoming students, monitor student success (tracking progress, graduation requirements, exit interviews, alumni placements & communications), and manage program events (guest speakers, monthly meetings, holidays & graduation), and serve as the Public Health Student Association (PHSA) staff liaison. The successful candidate will also support the program to build community partnerships and attend and represent the program at community meetings & conferences.

The MPH (Master of Public Health) program has a unique focus on Chronic Disease Prevention & Control with the mission of engaging students through applied, interdisciplinary learning experiences that equip them to take an active role in providing public health leadership within the communities they serve. This program, designed to prevent premature disease and disability, strives to promote health equity, and reduce health disparities through community-engaged experiences and collaborative approaches.

Qualifications :
Successful candidates will possess the following requirements:

  • An earned MPH, or equivalent degree in public health or related field
  • At least 2 years of experience or education in public health.
  • At least 2 years of experience collaborating with community partners in the areas of program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Experience with national accreditation process.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across all levels; demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and build consensus among diverse, multicultural populations, including graduate students, faculty, and community partners.
  • Evidence of community-based collaborations with diverse populations.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Willingness to engage in assisting the UTC campus in its ability to reach additional goals as specified in UTC’s strategic plan.


Preferred Qualifications :

  • Priority consideration will be given to candidates with an established record of service in the field of chronic disease prevention and control that can be applied widely, particularly in underserved communities; and experience with service learning and/or facilitating community-based partnerships.
  • Evidence of multidisciplinary, collaborative work is highly desirable. The program seeks to enhance collaborations with colleagues in other units across the University, as well as with a variety of external, community-based partnerships.
  • Background working in or within diverse organizations or communities.
  • Demonstrated record of advising and mentoring diverse students.
  • Master of Public Health degree preferred.
  • Foundational accreditation process knowledge with the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
