Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

The Coordinator for Selection and Development is a full-time live-off position supervised by the Assistant Director of Residential Life for Selection and Development. The primary purpose of this role is to serve as a central resource for Residential Initiatives, ensure quality customer service, and provide significant administrative support to the Residential Initiatives team. Key contributions to the department include: planning, implementing, and assessing all Residential Life & Housing undergraduate student employment recruitment and training programs; creating virtual training sessions and resources through the development of the online training website; and assisting in marketing for Residential Life initiatives. Time commitments are generally limited to office hours and administrative tasks, but could extend into after-hours work such facilitating training opportunities and supporting departmental initiatives.

Minimum Hiring Standards

Earned Bachelor’s Degree in related field; Effective communication skills (oral and written); Ability to build teams and work collaboratively; Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy; Ability to work well under pressure with multiple and changing deadlines; Demonstrated proficiency utilizing technology such as web applications, online systems, database software, and standard office packages (such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite); Presentation experience and demonstrated ability in leading discussions and training topics with students and/or with faculty and staff within the department; Ability to work independently and as part of a team, manage several responsibilities at the same time, resolve problems using initiative and sound judgment; Ability to collect, interpret, and report data and to write informational materials and reports; Strong interpersonal skills; Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU .

Preferred Hiring Standards

Master’s degree in related field; Experience conducting recruitment, selection, or training processes; Experience in residence life/housing or experience working in higher education with a diverse student population; Demonstrated commitment to creating learning environments and opportunities for diverse student populations; Ability to approach staff trainings and development using intersectional framework; Knowledge of student learning theory and developmental outcomes, and experience in its application; Specific experience with platforms like Adobe Creative Suite, Canvas, and Articulate 360.
