Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

VCU’s Department of Family Medicine is seeking a human resources professional for the role of HR Administrator. This position is responsible for the effective and efficient management and oversight of all human resources activities in the department to include recruitment, employee salary administration, position management, interpretation of personnel policies, employee relations and faculty contract administration. The HR Administrator will serve as the Department of Family Medicine’s HR subject matter expert and will provide technical and consultative HR guidance for department leadership and employees. The HR Administrator will also be a member of the School of Medicine’s HR team and will participate in special projects and support the School of Medicine, and VCU’s new Great Place policy and service delivery model.

Minimum Hiring Standards

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field or an equivalent combination of experience in general business or personnel background and training.
Experience in an increasingly responsible role in human resources, preferably in an academic setting.
Experience working in a HR position advising, guiding and consulting with managers and employees.
Experience in partnering with managers to resolve employee conflicts and situations in a timely and thorough manner.
Strong knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws.
Outstanding customer service skills and high degree of professionalism.
Resourcefulness with the ability to adapt to change and ambiguity.
Ability to exercise strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment and to set/meet deadlines, organize workload and juggle changing priorities.
Demonstrated capability of maintaining confidentiality with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations effectively and professionally.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong working knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook.
Ability to work in a diverse environment required.

Preferred Hiring Standards

Knowledge of Banner HR, Talent@VCU, SWP, eJobs systems.
Knowledge of faculty recruitment and contracting processes.
Knowledge of physician credentialing processes.
