Department Overview

The career development unit is responsible for designing and implementing programs to assist employees with their development by offering development opportunities to maximize their growth and potential.

Position Overview

This position is instrumental in providing program development, administrative support, and data collection to support the university’s career development program (i.e., career communities {employee career development groups}, mentoring program, training programs, etc.).

Job functions
Mentoring
● Serve as system administrator for employee online mentoring program
●Update and/or create resources for effective mentoring program (both mentor and mentee)
●Conduct research on mentoring best practices and coordinate program evaluation efforts.
●Coordinate and facilitate educational workshops for participants.
●Communicate effectively with internal and external partners about the program.

Career Communities (Employee Career Development Groups)
●Serve as liaison with career communities for mentoring program
●Support career communities with overall programs and sustainability efforts

Data Collection
●Collect, provide data accordingly for monthly reports (i.e., mentoring programs, career community events and participants, training programs, etc.)
●Support data collection methods.
●Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

●High School diploma or GED
●Strong organizational skills
●Experience in Microsoft Office programs, Google Suite programs
●Experience in virtual communications tools – ZOOM and Google Meet
●Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU .
●A desire to foster equity and inclusion in one’s team and throughout the university.

Preferred Qualifications

●Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred.
●Experience working in Adult Learning, Human Resource Development or Employee Development
●Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.

●Self-directed, independent skills
●Ability to work independently
●Project management skills
●Time management
