Alumni have indicated in recent surveys that help finding a job, industry networking, and professional development as the #1, #2, and #3 most important things that the Alumni Association can do to support alumni. The Director of Alumni Career Development will lead the strategy to create virtual and in-person programs to address these areas for Terp alumni. This includes a hands-on role in creating and executing events that develop professional skills and lifelong learning for alumni. Through partnerships with UMD faculty and staff, the Director will organize virtual and in-person workshops, lectures, and seminars to help Terp alumni achieve their professional goals, expand their skills, and gain certifications for professional licenses.

The Director will also oversee digital content creation for career development programs. Working collaboratively with alumni thought leaders, freelancers, and the Office of Strategic Communications, the Director will oversee the creation of digital career content for alumni of all stages and various industries. Specific initiatives include alumni career guides and a podcast / video series.

The Director will also be responsible for data metrics and reporting for alumni career programs. As the chief strategist for alumni career programs, the Director will utilize data at all points in program development and assessment to make data-driven decisions about new or existing programs.

The Director will oversee a Manager of Alumni Career Programs, who oversees the Alumni Association mentoring and industry networking initiatives. Additionally, as a member of the Engagement and Outreach team, the Director will conduct individual alumni visits and participate in other general alumni outreach initiatives as part of the Alumni Association staff.

The Director must have the ability to travel and to attend evening and weekend events and programs (15%).

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience:
A minimum of 7 years of experience in alumni relations, career services, or related fields. Candidates should also have some experience managing staff or volunteers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to think creatively and strategically in order to launch a new initiative.
Ability to work collaboratively, multi-task, think strategically to both set and achieve goals.
Ability to assess, recommend and implement programming and operations based on strategic planning goals.
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to analyze data and prepare reports.
