General Summary/Purpose:

To coordinate the conduct of multiple research and IRB studies in the in-hospital and clinic settings with an emphasis on the screening, enrollment, and monitoring of patient candidates/participants, to work with research study team on development of overall study conduct processes, and ensure that all research activities are carried out in accordance with established protocol.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the conduct of a cohort study protocols in the in-hospital and clinic settings with an emphasis on the screening, enrollment, and monitoring of patient candidates/participants
  • work with research study team on development of overall study conduct processes, and ensure that all research activities are carried out in accordance with established protocol.
  • Maintain efficient organizational management of the study, including timeliness in scheduling and completing study visits and follow-up, addressing queries and/or data clarification forms.
  • Advises and assists investigators and their staff regarding JHM IRB application submission and review requirements.
  • Formulates agenda materials and tracks components of the review process, including communication with other offices and committees.
  • Attends project research meetings to take minutes as needed.
  • Maintains working knowledge of internal JHM IRB procedures.
  • Manage resources and priorities of the cohort study.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of participant enrollment, follow-up and completeness of the data collection.
  • Coordinated laboratory samples for cohort study
  • Act as back up coordinator for other studies
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Attend pediatric surgery lab meetings weekly, have one on one meetings weekly with Dr. Hackam and Mr. Fulton, and join the division clinic research meeting (monthly)
  • Meet individual investigators in the division in accordance with their individual projects
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • Some related experiencerequired.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula:18 graduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience.Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Prior experience in project coordination or project management for research, including a clinical trial, or cohort study, data base study, or translational/basic science
  • Prior experience with the Johns Hopkins or equivalent IRB

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with a diverse team including undergraduates, graduate students, surgery fellows, faculty and staff. Strong communication skills. Word processing, data entry, power point.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
