Shippensburg University is currently searching for a Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.  The anticipated starting salary range is $75,838 - $83,421 annually, depending on experience, and includes an extensive benefits package.

 

The Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, reporting to the Chief Diversity Officer and working in concert with all divisions and student support offices across Shippensburg University (University), provides leadership in maintaining current diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives as well as expanding the reach of the DEI portfolio and support data-driven recruitment and retention efforts at the institution with a focus on diverse student populations.  The Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is the program administrator for the Anti-Racism Institute (ARI), the designated advocate and point of contact for all DEI campus programming and reports for the University and any and all University stakeholders who may require DEI progress reports.

 

Essential Responsibilities, Skills and Abilities:

 

Enrollment and Employment:

  • Meet established institutional DEI student enrollment goals and workforce employment goals with a focus on diverse populations in accordance with the university’s affirmative action plan.
  • Possess knowledge of the latest DEI research and trends and challenges to strategically plan for present and future Shippensburg University DEI programming goals.
  • Research and identify available DEI grant opportunities; complete grant applications; and manage and implement secured grants to ensure compliance with funding requirements.
  • Promote Shippensburg University’s DEI work in the campus community, the local community, the geographic region and beyond.

 

Administrative:

  • Direct the Anti-Racism Institute (ARI).
  • Work with the campus community to secure the resources, including external, to fund the ARI and hire federal work-study employees and graduate assistants to ensure efficient operations regarding the ARI and its offerings.
  • Collaborate with Communications to craft public statements regarding issues of diversity.
  • Collaborate with all university stakeholders to assess the need for, and recommend training initiatives on, cultural competency, gender differences, disability, racial, ethnic and religious diversity, and other topics designed to increase awareness and support of DEI values, and maintaining compliance with applicable laws.
  • Work with Human Resources to develop and implement strategies to integrate effective DEI practices creating a more equitable and inclusive work environment.
  • Assess the quality of DEI program using quantitative metrics and descriptive narrative for University accreditation and affirmative action reports.
  • Control and direct the Hope Scholarship fund dinner; Coordinate the Days of Human Understanding grant application and distribution process; Organize “Courageous Conversations” and other diversity-based conversations on campus, including book discussions; and Control the master calendar for diversity events.
  • Complete and provide applicable Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE), Shippensburg University, and PA Department of Education DEI Reports and periodic reports on University DEI programs and data to all university stakeholders.
  • Serve on PASSHE DEI and relevant University committees as assigned.

 

DEI Success:

  • Establish DEI priorities to the University Strategic Plan and the Academic Master Plan.
  • Work consultatively, collaboratively, and collegially with various constituencies to ensure that DEI programs and services meet the needs of all students.
  • Facilitate a program of professional development activities for faculty and staff.
  • Understand best practices in delivering DEI programs and services to diverse campus community audiences; and,
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Maintain professionalism when carrying out all responsibilities and dealing with all faculty, students, staff and others while fostering positive working relationships.
  • Possess strong conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills.

Qualified candidates will have a Master’s Degree.  The Director of DEI is expected to understand the research, needs and trends of DEI initiatives, have experience in DEI grant writing and administration and is expected to work collaboratively with faculty, students, staff, administrators and community partners all in the service of advancing the DEI mission and goals of Shippensburg University.  This assignment will require some evening and weekend work. Successful performance in an on-campus interview is required.
