The candidate will work as a member of the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality (AI). AI research activities are interdisciplinary and regularly include researchers and clinicians in the Bloomberg School of Public Health and School of Medicine at Johns Hopkins, and policy leaders, project leaders and research administrators at a number of research, grant, and contracting agencies.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • The candidate will help manage the administrative and scientific implementation of two research projects that aim to improve patient and family-caregiver engagement in the hospital setting and post hospital discharge.
  • While one project involves working with clinicians, healthcare leaders, and patients and caregivers to learn fromCOVID-19 pandemicresponse and develop interventions to maintain patient and family engagement during pandemic periods. The candidate will participate in the recruitment and retention of study participants, study visits, data collection (e.g., chart review, patient survey and interviews), and data analysis, the other project focuses on perioperative pain management.
  • The candidate will also assist with the preparation of study protocols and materials, and reports required by the funding agencies.
  • The candidate will conduct literature reviews as needed and work with project PIs on developing grant submissions and drafting manuscripts.
  • The candidate will work collaboratively with study team to assure that study deliverables and report schedules are met as required by the granting agency; track completion of assigned tasks; and any other duties as needed.
  • The candidate will assist with the writing and development, study tools and documents, and help lead meetings and conference calls with study team and various stakeholders.
  • The candidate will also assist with the writing and development of the final manuscripts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in related discipline required.
  • Must have at least 3 years of experience in a related field
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
