Position Summary:

The Finance Director is a key member of the WPM Leadership team who plans, develops, and implements strategic financial goals, priorities, policies, and procedures across multiple finance functional areas to ensure efficient financial resource deployment. Develops budgets, manages and monitors actual results, provides Director of WPM counsel towards efficient and effective use of financial resources, manages automated accounting systems, and provides consultation to administrative units to encourage the use of best practices for compliant, efficient reporting. Coordinates financial reporting and audit activities with partner state agency, Wisconsin Educational Communications Board. Collaborates with central UW Madison financial offices including Business Services and Madison Budget Office to ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, campus and state regulations. Advises, supports and coordinates with the affiliated 501(c)(3) organizations providing financial support to Wisconsin Public Radio and PBS Wisconsin. The Finance Director oversees the day-to-day financial operations of WPM and a small finance team and reports to the Director of Wisconsin Public Media.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required, field of accounting, finance, or business management preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 7 years of experience leading a team in a dynamic financial environment
- 3 years of financial management experience in a university, governmental or non-profit organization
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and their application to both governmental and non-profit organizations
- Experience managing external audit process

NOT REQUIRED BUT DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- CPA
- Experience leading financial environment with multiple, related entities
- Experience overseeing compliance with state or federal regulatory recordkeeping and audit processes
- Knowledge of the public broadcasting industry
