The Marketing Social Media Strategist actively manages social media platforms to deliver partner value in their digital marketing efforts. The strategist will source content relevant to partner markets; amplify messages and industry news and information through research on trends, educational content and thought leadership. Work with business partners, strategies and team members to curate and create content for various channels. Proactively interact with online communities across all platforms. Drive community growth, reach and engagement across all social platforms. Build and nurture relationships with community members to foster brand evangelism. Deep dive into target markets to provide compelling content and thought leadership to the community. Day-to-day management and moderation of editorial content on social media platforms, including tweets, posts and discussions including after hours and weekends. Responsibilities also include 24/7 monitoring for sensitive, controversial, and potentially damaging content and flagging to appropriate leaders. This may also include working with leaders to craft response plans for mitigating risk and negative backlash.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, information management, or equivalent degree or professional experience required.

• Two (2) plus years’ experience in digital and social media communications and digital marketing.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Advanced ability to communicate in writing, including strong editing skills and knowledge of the fundamentals of writing and grammar.

• Thorough knowledge of social media platforms, best practices, proficiency working across platforms and knowledge of what makes content engaging and sharable.

• Understanding of how to leverage social media for brand development and to achieve organizational objectives.

• General knowledge of principles and practices related to storytelling, communications, public relations, marketing, user-generated content management, and reputation management.

• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently in a fast-paced environment, prioritize and manage multiple tasks, perform well on deadline and long-term projects, and adapt to new and changing needs.

• Strong creative and critical thinking skills, excellent judgment, and ability to respond quickly and strategically in a variety of situations and environments.

• Demonstrated knowledge of photography, videography, multimedia and/or graphic design is preferred.

• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software, Google Analytics, basic HTML, third-party social media tools, content management systems and similar technologies is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manages the University’s social media strategies by coordinating the daily activity of Syracuse University’s primary social media channels.

• Plans and curates engaging content for multiple audiences in a variety of ways and formats.

• Manages the content verification process for the student social media team.

• Develops and implements social media plans to support events, campaigns, fundraising activities and other communications strategies and initiatives.

• Supports all projects and initiatives assigned to support the University’s communications strategies.

• Consistently (including after normal business hours) monitors University channels, external channels, and social conversations, and directs issues and opportunities to the proper departments for prompt and appropriate responses, seven days a week.

• Tracks and reports on key performance indicators and benchmarks to measure the effectiveness of social media strategies and efforts.

• Keeps track of trends in the social media landscape.

• Makes recommendations and adjusts strategies based on analytics and insights.

• Stays up to date on industry trends.
