Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder's Leeds School of Business encourages applications for two development professionals, an Assistant and Associate Director of Development!

Both positions are relationship-builders and ambassador for the Leeds School of Business. Working primarily with alumni and business and community members in Colorado and a specified geographic region of the United States, the assistant and associate directors will help individuals build meaningful relationships with Leeds and inspire financial investments in the school’s vision, mission and programs.

The Assistant Director of Development requires a minimum of 1 year of front line face-to-face fundraising, sales, public relations, or transferrable relationship management experience, preferably in a University setting. The assistant director will be focused on growing an existing portfolio of relationships capable of making philanthropic commitments of $25,000 and above. This position typically handles early and mid-level, moderately complex donor and prospective donor relationships, with the intent of cultivating, sustaining and increasing their engagement and investment. Significant discovery and qualification opportunities exist, and should be an important and expected part of this role.

The Associate Director of Development requires a minimum of 2 years of front line face-to-face fundraising, sales, public relations, or transferrable relationship management experience, preferably in a University setting. You will play a role in establishing a deep-rooted culture of philanthropy across the University and among the Leeds alumni and partner community. The primary focus for this role is to work personally with people around the country to inspire major philanthropic gifts of $25,000 and above.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

A daily commitment to collaboration, innovation and excellence

  • Manage a portfolio of around 120 current and prospective donors. You’ll be responsible for strategizing and leading efforts to engage these individuals with Leeds, working toward gift solicitations (working towards commitments of $25K and above) and other significant investments in the school.
  • Build new relationships. Conduct discovery meetings with alumni and other community members to gauge opportunities to bring individuals and businesses into our work.
  • Align donor interests with strategic priorities and opportunities at Leeds. Work closely with faculty and staff to facilitate gifts conversations and investments in programs across Leeds and CU Boulder.
  • Manage internal relationships, including with the CU Foundation team, to ensure that we deliver on our promises to donors and their investments. Manage timely and accurate completion of all stages of work to close gifts to Leeds.
  • Represent the Leeds School at events and use school engagements as opportunities to deepen donors’ relationships with Leeds and CU Boulder. Facilitate non-event engagements such as volunteer opportunities and student interactions to strategically build relationships in ways that utilize prospects time, talent, and professional expertise.
  • Expect to travel 25% of the time.
  • Annual visit and proposal expectations are clearly communicated in CU’s metrics planning.


What We Can Offer

The Assistant Director of Development salary is $60,000.

The Associate Director of Development salary range is $71,000-$73,903.

What We Require

Assistant Director of Development:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • 1 year of professional job related experience.


Associate Director of Development:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • 2 years of fundraising experience.
