Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
The VCU School of Education’s Child Development Center is seeking to hire a full-time Assistant Teacher to support the CDC in providing high-quality care and education by coordinating center activities. General duties are:
-Assisting the teacher in guiding and supervising volunteers and interns.
-Assisting the teacher with implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum.
-Assisting the teacher with assessing children’s development through portfolios and reports of identified developmental and learning objectives.
-Completing 16 hours of training each year that is required by the VA Department of Social Services, and NAEYC .
Minimum Hiring Standards
- Excellent verbal/written communication and customer service skills required.
- A professional attitude and confidentiality is of the utmost importance in all interactions.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks by stated deadlines.
- Excellent computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office software.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
-Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Hiring Standards
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education
- First Aid / CPR certification
