Technical Writer/Editor - (STA007361)



Writes and edits high-level communications, publications and reports with complex technical and/or research-related subject matter, including press releases and news articles for print and web publications. Designs, researches, and writes technical and research related news and feature stories for print and web.
  • Determines content materials, selects and researches subjects, conducts interviews and ensures accuracy of facts.
  • Plans and edits research and academic themed magazines, publications, websites and electronic newsletters.
  • Consults with and leads designers and photographers on overall design, execution and production of publications, including press production, mailing/distribution, posting on the web and targeting of specific audiences.
  • Researches university programs for potential story ideas to generate media and public interest; identifies appropriate media outlets for specific story interests; markets story ideas and university information to local and national media outlets.
  • Provides support for major college or department initiatives through planning, researching and writing proposals, briefing materials and reports.
  • Assists administrators and faculty members with the composition of press statements, communications, and public interviews.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
This position will be housed in the HEALTH Research Institute and the Administrative Core that is executed by the NIH/NIMHD funded Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) U54: HEALTH Center for Addictions Research and Cancer Prevention (https://www.healthrcmi.com/). The RCMI is advancing strategies for addressing health disparities in undeserved communities by translating scientific breakthroughs into culturally-informed and community-centered dissemination and implementation strategies.

We are looking for an employee with a demonstrated record of (1) grant writing and editing, (2) production of grant funded implementation and dissemination products, (3) design, research, and technical writing of research related content for print and web, and (4) a commitment to health-equity science. A strong candidate would work well with a diverse team in the execution of research being supported by a national center in addictions and cancer prevention. Necessary qualifications for success in this position are the capacity to assist with deliverables associated with sponsored projects, meticulous attention to detail in written work, the ability to multi-task between assignments (i.e. organizational skills), and excellent communication skills.

Qualifications :

Bachelor's Degree and 5 years experience.

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.
