Key Position Information:


Position Summary:
This position primarily supports the college's PeopleSoft/Oracle ERP systems and related infrastructure. Specific skills necessary for this position include:
  • Oracle Database Administration
  • Upgrading, installing and patching Oracle databases
  • Backing up and recovering databases using rman and Cloud Control
  • Implement and test database backup and recovery strategy.
  • Optimizing performance of Oracle database
  • Writing, understanding, and optimizing SQL statements
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve database problems
  • Providing guidance and recommendations for query optimizations
  • Implement monitoring procedures to maximize availability, security and performance of the databases.
  • Capacity planning, workload modelling, system maintenance/administration and diagnostics.
  • PeopleSoft application administration
  • Installing and configuring PeopleSoft environments, including but not limited to: Human Resources, Financial, Student Administration
  • PeopleTools installation, upgrades.
  • Linux Virtual Server administration and maintenance
  • BEA WebLogic installation, administration, and optimization
  • Tuxedo installation, administration, and optimization
  • Backup and recovery of Peoplesoft infrastructure
  • Performance monitoring and optimization
  • Disaster recovery
  • Technical Support and Leadership
  • Provide on-site, and on call 7x24x365 support, as needed,
  • Keep abreast of industry and technology trends and provide guidance to other IT team members.
  • Provide technical advisory to Peoplesoft developers and administrators as needed.

  • This is the fifth of six levels in the Information Technology series. Incumbents coordinate and implement the maintenance, use and enhancement of software or hardware systems critical to the operation of the College. Responsibilities may include analyzing system capabilities and implementing process and procedure changes to better utilize software or hardware; coordinating with software vendors regarding software support and system enhancements; coordinating projects involving the implementation of new software or hardware, or system changes; and training end users.


    Requirements::
    Education:

    Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or in a related area.

    Experience:

    10+ years applicable experience in the design/administration/support of one or more DBMS platforms, with 5+ years in the design/administration/support of Oracle databases.

    10+ years applicable experience in the installation/administration/support of Linux or Windows servers. Experience in Linux virtual server administration, patching, application and system upgrades. Working knowledge of backup and recovery of file systems and databases.

    5+ years of applicable experience in the design/administration/support of Peoplesoft systems.

    Oracle DBMS certification.

    * An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

    Physical:
    • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

    Potential Frequency
    1.
    Manages multiple systems, applications, and/or functions and related projects which include testing system performance, identifying system risks and needs, and performing related duties.
    Daily - 20%

    2.
    Researches information technology problems and discovers sources of errors; analyzes systems capabilities and implements necessary operational changes; participates in the development and/or review of equipment and/or service specifications.
    Daily - 25%

    3.
    Confers with users to determine needs and implement best practice solutions. Provides end-user support and troubleshooting of software problems and issues.
    Daily - 25%

    4.
    Analyzes data and develops reports for decision making. Develops training documents, provides training when needed, and maintains system user access and role assignments.
    Daily - 20%

    5.
    Coordinates projects with internal and external parties as necessary.
    Daily - 10%

    6.
    Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
