Doane University invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology for the 2021-22 academic year, with the possibility of renewal.  PhD preferred; ABDs considered.

Doane’s Biology Department is a national leader with a curriculum built around the key concepts and competencies outlined in the AAAS Vision & Change report. The Biology Department values dedicated educators who engage their students in genuine inquiry in the classroom. For this position, the fall term course load would include an Introductory Biology course for majors and Biostatistics. The spring term course load would include an Introductory Biology course for majors, Introductory Biology for non-majors, and Biostatistics.

The duties associated with the teaching assignment include:

  • Developing and/or updating syllabi.
  • Preparing lectures.
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meeting all designated class periods.
  • Submitting completed final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
  • Collecting student and course assessment data as requested by the department and University.

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in an active learning and teaching environment, value interdisciplinary studies, are committed to teaching a diverse population of students, include students with different perspectives, and are responsive to student needs.
