POSITION DETAILS
The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, founded in 2006, has become nationally recognized for its innovative programs. The only public graduate journalism school in the northeastern U.S., it prepares students from diverse economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds to produce high-quality journalism.
As the profession continues to reinvent itself for the digital age, the Newmark J-School is at the forefront of equipping the next generation of journalists with the reporting, writing, interactive, technological, and entrepreneurial skills they need to find stories and tell them effectively. The school currently offers a Master of Arts in Journalism, a unique bilingual M.A. in Journalism for students fluent in English and Spanish, and the nation's first M.A. in Engagement Journalism.
The Department of Information Technology (IT) at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism is seeking an IT Administrative Specialist. Reporting directly to the IT Director of Technology, the Administrative Specialist will serve as the chief liaison between the tech department and other departments at SOJ on projects involving purchasing and procurement, software acquisitions, account creation, and other technological needs of the school.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Serves as the tech team’s chief departmental liaison and information gatherer to assess the School’s technological needs;
- Tracks IT projects and tasks, along with assigned staff, timelines, and deadlines, in the Basecamp project management system in order to maintain continuity of IT service to the school;
- Works closely with the IT tech support team to ensure excellent customer service across the school;
- Assists with IT purchasing and procurement operations to obtain necessary goods and services utilizing the IT operating budget, student technology fees, and capital funds awarded to IT;
- Follows CUNY, state, and federal guidelines to acquire IT goods and services on behalf of IT for school; ensures that transactions are compliant with accounts payable requirements;
- Works closely with the Finance Office to develop and verify bid specifications for IT goods and services, communicate with vendors to request quotes, follow up on orders, reconcile invoicing and billing, etc.;
- Maintains accurate IT transaction and expense records, maintains purchasing databases in SharePoint, monitors requisitions and purchase orders in CUNYfirst;
- Assists with proper handling of returns, RMA, credits, and other related orders issues;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.
A preferred candidate should have:
- Familiarity with project management software, CUNYfirst, Salesforce, SharePoint, and MS Teams.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
