The Program in Africana Studies at Vassar College invites applications for a Part Time Adjunct Instructor or Adjunct Assistant Professor position in Critical Carceral Studies beginning Fall 2021.

Position Description
We seek an interdisciplinary scholar or activist whose teaching and research center on Critical Carceral Studies (also known as Prison Studies), which is located at the intersection of political and legal thought, criminology, history, cultural studies, and critical race theory. We strongly encourage applications from scholars who demonstrate a range of competencies in historical and contemporary critical perspectives on state and colonial violence, human rights, and transnational carceral projects including militarized borders, policing, detention, and incarceration. The hire is expected to teach three (3) courses during the academic year; preferably an Advanced Seminar in Carceral Studies in the Fall 2021 and two intermediate courses in the Spring 2022.
