THE SEARCH

The College of the Holy Cross ("Holy Cross"), the highly selective Catholic, Jesuit, liberal arts undergraduate institution, seeks a strategic, experienced, and collaborative leader for the role of Vice Provost for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (VPDEI). The VPDEI is responsible for developing and implementing strategic goals for the College related to diversity, equity, and inclusion while ensuring a high level of innovation, transparency, and accountability. The Holy Cross community is defined by cura personalis, or "care for the whole person," and the VPDEI should aim to create a culture of care and belonging at the College that is inspiring to and inclusive of all community members.  The VPDEI will serve as a thoughtful and engaged leader who fosters deep relationships with faculty, staff, students, and alumni in order to build understanding and provide support and resources on matters related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Holy Cross is one of 27 Jesuit institutions of higher education in the United States, and the only exclusively undergraduate liberal arts college. Founded in 1843 on a hill overlooking the city of Worcester (about 40 miles west of Boston), the Holy Cross community encompasses the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of 3,000 undergraduate students, over 300 full- and part-time faculty, 1,193 staff, and nearly 40,000 alumni. At Holy Cross, close and life-long bonds flourish. Here, intellectual interests and beliefs can be explored freely. Here also, community members are united in pursuit of a purpose-driven life as "men and women for and with others."

The VPDEI reports to the Provost and Dean of the College and provides strategic leadership on institutional priorities related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The next VPDEI will work with the Executive Team to coordinate and implement strategic DEI planning initiatives that advance the College’s mission and vision. The next VPDEI will work collaboratively with key campus constituents to enhance educational programs and develop initiatives that enhance the recruitment and retention of faculty, staff, and students from underrepresented backgrounds. They will chair the DEI Implementation Team and work to enact the goals established by that team and ensure that progress is communicated to campus and efforts are assessed thoroughly. This role will be supported by two staff members within the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
