JOB SUMMARY: The Clinical Psychologist is required to serve as an educator in his/her area of expertise, facilitate Problem Based Learning (PBL), advise Osteopathic Medical students, interview applicants, and contribute to the mission of the college through research and service.  The successful candidate is knowledgeable and qualified to teach psychology at a Medical College level.  Teaching responsibilities will be performed onsite at the campus in Elmira, NY.

 

CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following is a list of academic exercises that may be required as a full-time member of the basic science faculty from time to time:

  • Serve as content expert in clinical psychology;
  • Serve as Problem Based Learning (PBL) facilitator ;
  • Serve as advisor/mentor to assigned students;
  • Serve as advisor to at least one student club;
  • Serve on committees, as assigned;
  • Conduct assessments for students, faculty and staff who experience psychological or personal life dysfunction, or academic challenges;
  • Assist in facilitating the referral process to a community treatment provider for students, faculty and staff, when necessary;
  • Assist the Director of Behavior Health with case management for students, faculty and staff who are enrolled in a treatment modality or agree to behavioral monitoring for sobriety;
  • Assist the Director of Behavioral Health in constructing, updating, facilitating, and conducting lectures in the Introduction to Behavioral Health (IBH) course;
  • Interview standardized patient applicants for behavioral screening;
  • Write behavioral health case scenarios for standardized patients for the Mental Status Examination practical experience in the IBH course;
  • Attend and participate in the Behavioral Intervention Team committee meetings;
  • Maintain a working relationship with community mental health agencies, private psychiatry, substance abuse agencies, and other social service agencies;
  • Process referrals to Physicians Health Programs PHP) and Secundum Artem Reaching Pharmacists with Help (S.A.R.P.H.) agencies for evaluation, and assist in managing potential monitoring through said agencies;
  • Present Behavioral Health services at student orientation, as needed;
  • Provide consultation to faculty regarding student concerns;
  • Prepare educational tools (A/V, demonstration models, lectures, lesson plans, etc.); 
  • Prepare demonstrations, lectures, small group discussions, and the selection of suggested and required reading from various sources, and coordinating these educational tools with other faculty members;
  • Prepare evaluation tools that will aid in the evaluation of students’ work product and help to identify students that are discovered to be weak in various areas;
  • Participate in training/preparing students for humanistic portion of the Performance Evaluation;
  • Participate in the remediation procedure for students having failed the Performance Evaluation;
  • Attend “Team” meetings approved by COM that require advancement of your profession;
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings with administrative staff/supervisor;
  • Contribute to, and be responsible for, overall student success, including, but not limited to, advising and student outcomes;
  • Contribute directly to the Mission of LECOM embodying the essence of Osteopathic Principles and Practices by assisting with Institutional fundraising and participating in the LECOM Scholarship Auction;
  • Participate in scholarly activity so to enrich and broaden the student learning experience;
  • Commit to being a representative of LECOM by being actively involved in the community, including, but not limited to, serving on Boards, participating in community fundraisers and overall outreach;
  • Ability to take direction and receive assignments from the Assistant Dean of Pre-Clinical Education;
  • Available for work during the hours assigned, for student instruction with the expectation of 40 hours per calendar week when not on vacation, holiday or conference; and
  • Accept other duties assigned/needed for the Institution’s needs.

Minimum Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Knowledge of psychiatric diagnostic criteria in order to realize differential diagnoses;
  • Competency with the utilization of psychological methodologies;
  • Ability to review the work of others to ensure conformance to standards;
  • Effective written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to communicate effectively across a broad spectrum of staff, both orally and in writing;
  • Confidence to handle ambiguous and fluid situations;
  • Ability to work with individuals at all levels in the organization;
  • Knowledge of student and patient’s privacy (i.e. FERPA, HIPAA, etc.);
  • Follow proper OSHA and safety guidelines; Protect equipment (office, medical, facility);
  • Strong communications skills are essential as well as computer literacy (MS Office Suit [i.e. Word, PowerPoint and Excel]) and accurate data entry skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Must be accurate and attentive to detail;  
  • Ability to maintain an established work schedule;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Education and experience equivalent to: New York state-licensed psychologist.  Doctorate level of achievement in psychology or field qualifying for a state license in psychology from an accredited institution.  At least two (2) years of experience in counseling practice and teaching experience at a college and/or graduate level education preferred.
