This full-time Counselor position includes providing individual and group counseling, psychoeducational workshops, and develops and implements programming specifically focused on equity and mental health and wellness of Black/African/African-American students. PCC counselors guide students in meeting their respective educational, personal, social and vocational goals, using judgment consistent with standards of the licensing boards and state and federal guidelines, and based upon adequate knowledge of counseling practices, methods, techniques, interpersonal relationships and community resources. Counselors provide prevention, outreach and intervention services and participate in committees and/or college service.

  • Ability to provide brief, effective individual and group counseling and psychoeducational programming specifically related to Black/African-American wellness and/or academic success.
  • A clear and working understanding of issues of social justice, racism, oppression and bias, and the subsequent impact of these phenomena on Black/African-American student wellness and academic progress.
  • Demonstrated ability to create identity-informed and culturally specific counseling programming which focus specifically on the mental health and wellness of Black/African-American college students.
  • Evidence of specific training related to counseling Black/African American college students and/or clients (e.g., Racial battle fatigue).
  • Evidence of successful program creation and/or implementation in collaboration with community partners or multiple stakeholders.


Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • Master's degree (or higher) in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or related area required. Degree must be from an accredited institution.
  • Two years of experience providing academic, personal and/or career development counseling. Internship experience may be counted.
  • Active, unrestricted professional practice license or ability to be registered as a professional level intern prior to the start date.


Starting Salary Expectations Initial Salary Placement will be up to Step 3 ($61,137) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement. Position Grade Salary Range $57346 to $97136 Annual Salary FTE 1 PCC Benefits

PCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP. A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049. PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.

Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions.

* Please note: Temporary Full-Time Faculty are not eligible for Personal Leave Days, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, or AD&D Insurance.

Paid Leave:

  • 1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 per year)
  • 21 hours of additional personal leave per year
  • 4 paid holidays (which occur during the term you are teaching)
