Postdoctoral Associate - Vascular Surgery (74077)

The Department of Surgery at the University of Florida is seeking two highly self-motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral associates to contribute to ongoing NIH funded studies investigating the molecular basis for peripheral vascular disease under the mentorship of Dr. Scott Berceli. The Berceli lab conducts research on multiple projects aimed at the elucidating mechanisms of vein graft failure and fistula maturation with specific interest in single cell genomics. The ideal candidate would have experience in the field of Vascular Biology, Immunology, Molecular Biology or a strong background in Genomics or Engineering; have a PhD and at least one first-authored publication of significance; possess strong knowledge of molecular biology; and work well as part of collaborative research group with a strong work ethic and strong organization skills. Experience in phenotyping immune cells, single cell RNA sequencing, and advanced statistics are preferred, but not required.

Postdoctoral associates in the Berceli lab receive structured and extensive mentoring by the PI and collaborating investigators in the Department of Surgery and the UF Myology Institute. Scholars are highly encouraged to initiate new projects and collaborations and will receive regular training in grant and manuscript writing. Support will be provided to attend scientific conferences to present work and provide networking opportunities.

With the full-time research position, the Postdoctoral Associate will be expected to carry out the following duties:

1. Cell culture, various bench-top assays, and animal experiments
2. Development of new methods required for completion of the research projects
3. Data collection, organization, analysis, and presentation
4. Abstract and manuscript preparation
5. Research proposal submission
6. Supervise undergraduate and technical staff as needed to assist with experiments.

Individuals will be required to do occasional light lifting as required for laboratory restocking, maintenance, etc.

Individuals will be required to comply with all institutional safety policies including Universal Precautions and OSHA standards when handling toxic, hazardous, flammable, radioactive or potentially infectious or carcinogenic materials. This may require wearing common protective garments or equipment such as gloves, eye protection, face mask, gown or lab coat, etc. Additionally some procedures may require the use of a fume hood or biological safety cabinet.

Required:

• Ph.D. in molecular or cell biology, or related field.
• Experience in the field of Vascular Biology and Immunology.
• At least one first-authored publication of significance.
• Applicants should have excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:

• Expertise in single cell RNA sequencing, genomics, R programming, and vascular biology.
