SUMMARY:

The Director is responsible for identifying, cultivating and soliciting leadership and major gift prospects for 4-figure to 6-figure gifts, managing a portfolio of high potential prospects with the goal to help increase fundraising goals year over year. The Director will also be responsible for continuously developing, overseeing, and evaluating on an ongoing basis an effective Annual Fund Program that both raises current dollars and builds the foundation for future philanthropy through pipeline programs and thoughtful stewardship. Annual Fund Programs include mail and email mass solicitations, the phonathon, an annual 1870 Society leadership giving campaign, Giving Day,and the Reunion gift program. The Director will critically evaluate efforts on an ongoing basis and innovate as necessary, managing an Operations Manager who has significant responsibility for the execution of the Annual Fund. The Director will be a self-starter who is versed in creative methods of reaching alumni across a variety of communication channels. He/she will be forward thinking and able to navigate uncertainty as new programs are designed in a start-up environment. The Director will manage The 1870 Society Committee, and other peer-to-peer fundraising volunteers.

The Director is collaborative as he/she works in concert with other members of the Law School Advancement office, the Dean, the Law School's administrative team (career services, student affairs, admissions, communications) and the central Advancement Division to ensure that all aspects of the overall program are effectively executed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Development - Leadership Giving:

The Director will identify, cultivate and solicit leadership and major gift prospects for 4-figure to 6-figure gifts, managing a portfolio of prospects with potential to make a major gift. The Director will make regular leadership annual fund solicitation phone calls and send personal emails to augment the face to face meetings to achieve growing financial goals. Travel is required as necessary to achieve 100-120 visits a year.

  • Annual Fund Program:

The Director will provide strategic direction, oversight and ultimate responsibility for the Law School's Annual Giving Program, supervising an Operations Manager who carries significant responsibility for the execution of the Program. Using independent judgment, knowledge of best practices, and data analytics, the Director provides oversight to the operation and determines the most effective vehicles for outreach and solicitation. The Director's primary role with the Annual Fund Program is to ensure Leadership Annual Fund donors and prospects are communicated with through personal emails, phone calls and visits and that cultivation and solicitation efforts lead to renewed gifts and an expanded donor pool. The Director will also be responsible for stewarding annual fund donors. Working with the Assistant Dean of Development and Director of Law Alumni Relations, the Director will provide strategic input on the nature, timing, location and follow-up of alumni events and will assist, as necessary, with the implementation of those events.

  • Volunteer Management:

The Director will manage The 1870 Society Committee, planning and overseeing an annual peer-to-peer fundraising campaign and event, two to three meetings annually, and regular communication with members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to successfully solicit and close gifts.

Demonstrated judgment and creative problem solving skills.

Exceptional organizational skills with demonstrated attention to detail.

Strong analytic skills with the ability to develop processes and tools to measure progress.

Ability to quickly react to changes reflected in data analysis and to shift strategies accordingly.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Ability to coordinate and manage volunteers and make them feel valued.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy, discretion, and collaboration with all levels of customers.

Demonstrated knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database management software.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree required. J.D. preferred.

Three to five years of related experience, preferably in an educational environment as a fundraiser managing individual and/or annual giving.

Experience with Raiser's Edge or other CRM database is preferred.

Computer proficiency is required.

A high degree of personal integrity is essential.

WORK HOURS:

  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week
  • Must be able to travel as needed

SALARY STRUCTURE: Pay Grade 8 (Hiring Range $62,345.00 to $82,600.00 annually)
