Summary:
The Director of the Entrepreneurship Institute directs the daily operations of the Institute. This includes responsibility for all management duties (fiscal and operational), strategic direction for campus and service area impact, public relations, fundraising, and community programming. UVU desires to see all interested students succeed in entrepreneurial ventures including groups traditionally underrepresented in entrepreneurship in Utah Valley.

Develops departmental goals and objectives. Provides direction and leadership regarding strategic planning, program mission, vision, values, and market niches. Responsible for initiating, developing, and executing programs that increase student participation, expand the involvement of other campus organizations, improve performance in competitions and student success, and build community involvement with UVU students and the program overall. Oversees the marketing for entrepreneurship events and programs, including academic courses. Oversees the gathering, recording, analysis, and reporting of the metrics of engaged entrepreneurship activities of UVU.

Identifies and develops initiatives for entrepreneurship across the UVU campus in building UVU's role as catalyst for regional business and economic development. Works to develop connections with all disciplines to help entrepreneurial students make business connections and to encourage students outside the business school to pursue their entrepreneurial interests. The Program Director collaborates closely with other campus entities, various underrepresented groups, and community organizations to provide a safe and supportive environment conducive to the inclusion and success of all students seeking to start a business.

Hires, coaches, mentors, and manages full-time entrepreneurship employees as well as various interns, part-time employees, and graduate assistants. Evaluates each staff member and interns multiple times throughout the year.

Meets regularly and collaborates with entrepreneurship faculty to identify and support entrepreneurship students effectively. This may include finding projects for classes, finding entrepreneur co-instructors to teach with the academic instructors, promoting entrepreneurship programs across the campus, and developing programs specific to other schools and colleges at UVU.

Works with Major Gift Officer in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gifts for the Entrepreneurship Institute and its initiatives. Follows up with and reports to sponsors/donors. Maintains involvement in organizations that will bring positive attention to UVU and provide additional support for student entrepreneurs. Develops mentoring connections and other community connections to benefit UVU student entrepreneurs and develop the Utah entrepreneurial community. Represents the University at various community events and functions. Collaborates with entrepreneurship programs at other schools to develop relationships, build the entrepreneurship community, and support students more effectively.

Mentors and consults with student entrepreneurs and oversees internships for students working on their businesses to fulfill their academic internship requirements. Follows up with students who participate in competitions and other events to ensure they are completing required milestones and to keep them engaged in future programming. Identifies and coaches particularly promising students/student teams.

Responsible for managing the Entrepreneurship Institute budget and tracking donations and expenditures. Develops annual budgets and funding allocations. Provides fiscal oversight and management for department budgets including grants for programs. Writes and manages grants.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and 3 - 5 years experience related to the summary of duties or a combination of education and work totaling 5 years. A key understanding of the needs of entrepreneurs developed from one or more of the following:
• Previously leading a successful entrepreneurship program
• Founder / Co-founder / CXO of a successful business through the exit process with an enterprise value of $10 Million or more.
• Significant experience in venture capital or private equity working with entrepreneurs.
• Serial entrepreneur with annual business revenues exceeding $1 million


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of business practices and procedures needed in Entrepreneurial business pursuits and the rules and regulations governing business.
  • Knowledge of and experience in developing and presenting training programs and/or workshops for employees and students.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, cost estimating, cost control, fiscal management principles, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of higher education.
  • Knowledge of fundraising methods.
  • Demonstrated skill in supervising and providing direction to staff, student employees, and volunteers.
  • Possess skill in preparing and managing budgets.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal, technical, analytical, marketing, and resource development skills necessary for program effectiveness.
  • Have competency in computer software and diverse programs necessary for position responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated skills in developing professional relationships with students.
  • Skill in marketing techniques.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, public speaking, and rapport-building skills.
  • Effective skills in organization and maintenance of records management and information systems.
  • Skills in work procedures and office equipment related to the needs of the department.
  • Skills in writing and managing grants and contracts.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively supervise and evaluate staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to work with a variety of personalities contacted in the course of the work.
  • Ability to supervise a full-time employee, student interns, mentors, and volunteers reporting to the position.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare reports, statements and projections, with good record-keeping systems and procedures.
  • Ability to function as a self-motivated individual.
  • Ability to work successfully with a diverse student body and staff and possess a strong commitment to creating an inclusive environment for staff and students, the delivery of programs that support the diversity objective of the campus community, and the development of cultural competency skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree from an accredited university is preferred or exceptional business experience.
Adjunct teaching experience at a university level is a plus.
Five years experience teaching / mentoring fellow entrepreneurs.
Proficiency with Microsoft suite, Microsoft Teams, Box, Qualtrics, Raiser’s Edge, Banner, ClickUp, HubSpot, and others.


Physical Requirements:
General office environment with standing and sitting for extended periods of time, fine hand manipulation in the use of a computer, seeing, hearing, speaking.

Ability and willingness to undertake travel and to work extended hours as necessary. Valid Driver’s License and the ability or means to travel to meetings at other sites related to the nature of this position.
