General Description:

The Division of Cancer Imaging Research, Department of Radiology and Radiological Science is seeking a full time Research Technologist to assist with cellular and preclinical experiments in drug development, drug delivery and therapeutic studies in cancer therapy. Candidates who utilize solid foundations in basic laboratory techniques and experience with techniques associated with a specific area such as biochemistry, histology, immunology or molecular biology are requested to apply. Minimal training will be provided to other individuals who may be assigned to the laboratory on a regular or temporary basis. May be assigned an independent project and might participate in the creation of manuscripts.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

    Planning and conducting in vitro and preclinical experiments to evaluate new drug candidates, drug delivery systems and theranostics in cancer therapy. Collecting and evaluation of experimental data before and after PET and MRI. Cultivation, maintaining, preparation, and secure storage of cancer cells and handling small animals (rodents) for experiments. Responsibly handling bio-hazardous material under Biosafety Level 2 and PET imaging agents. In vitro confocal fluorescence imaging and in vivo optical imaging. Administer drug candidates to tumor mouse models using injection Observation and evaluation of treatment response. Meeting with the PI and selected staff to review recent data, troubleshoot current experiments, review new experimental protocols and prioritize new experiments Maintaining records of attendance at regulatory/training sessions (e.g., biohazard, radiation safety, HIPPA, etc) Monitor inventory levels and proper storage of materials and supplies Maintain lab supplies, purchases, and forward paperwork to admin staff

Scope of Responsibility:

Knows the informal policies, procedures and practices necessary to conduct the normal function of a specific section, unit, or work area.

Is aware of the role of the position and its potential impact on the working unit.

Communication:

Exchanges routine information in an appropriate manner requiring good oral and written communication skills.

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or related field required.

Preferred Qualifications

Some related post-undergraduate education and/or relevant work experience preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Knowledgeable in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Other data processing software, such as Graphpad Prism, SigmaPlot etc.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
