ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with management of daily operations of the Ralph S O’Connor Center for Recreation and Well-Being
  • Scheduling and setting up all activities held in the Center
  • Hiring, training, scheduling, and assessing facilities and lifeguard staff; maintain appropriate records to ensure all aquatic staff are trained, qualified, and certified in their respective areas including regular in-services, professional development training, and audits
  • Assist with the supervision of 100+ facility/aquatic student staff
  • Manage daily operations of the Aquatic Center
  • Maintenance of water and air quality for the competition/recreation swimming pool and therapy pool in the Cordish Lacrosse Center in accordance with federal, state and local laws (Baltimore City Health Department)
  • Troubleshooting of mechanical and chemical systems; scheduling maintenance and repairs of the systems
  • Monitor pool water chemistry through testing of water samples
  • Develop and implement emergency action plan (EAP), conduct staff training and regular emergency procedures practice;help develop and administer the risk management policies for all pool areas
  • Coordinate and planspecial events for the Center
  • Plan and coordinate capital projects as needed
  • Serve on university, divisional, and departmental committees as needed
  • Assist in establishing short and long-term goals for the Department of Athletics and Recreation
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with department colleagues, as well as other partners across campus
  • Proactively communicate and build relationships with patrons of the Center
  • Perform other related duties as necessary and appropriate for the position as assigned by the Director or Supervisor
  • Ability to supervise groups of diverse individuals

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • One or more years of experience in student affairs work or related specialty with a bachelor's degree
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO)

PREFERRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor
  • Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) must be obtained within 120 days of hire

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
