Research Data Analyst

General Summary/Purpose:

This position willsupport collaborative research for investigators inthe Johns Hopkins Disability Health Research Center. The Research Data Analyst will provide expertise in data analyses for data derived from several data sources, including but not limited to cohort studies and other epidemiologic observational studies, randomized trials, and administrative claims data. The Research Data Analyst will participate as a co-author in preparation of manuscripts and presentations reporting study results based on his/her analyses. The Research Data Analyst will work with Center investigators and collaborators on: formation of statistical designs for studies, drafting statistical analysis plans, ensuring that the data collected can support the statistical analysis plan, preparing data tables for publications and presentations at scientific meetings, writing up the study results and statistical methods, generating confidential randomization allocation schemes, developing statistical reports for quality assurance (recruitment, data quantity, data quality), and generating confidential statistical reports for data monitoring committees. The Research Data Analystwill also provide statistical consultation to investigators, trainees and other staff and collaborators as a member of the Disability Health Research Center.Compliance with procedures in accordance with reproducible research is required.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plan and carry out biostatistical data analyses, including generation of analysis data sets and design and generation of tables and figures reporting analysis results
  • Contribute to writing and reviewing drafts of reports, posters, and manuscripts, including writing up interpretation of analysis results and description of statistical methods used
  • Create and maintain documentation of statistical methods and programming code
  • Create analysis datasets for scientific manuscripts and presentations and public use databases, including associated data dictionaries;
  • Identify potential problems with study data and collaborate with research team to resolve issues encountered;
  • Assist in preparing materials for and participate in investigators' meetings, Steering Committee meetings, etc.
  • Complete other as-needed data programming and analysis
  • Attend Center meetings and provide updates on status of reports, papers, and other work responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
  • 3 years related experience.
  • Additional education (Master's level) may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula:18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in biostatistics, epidemiology or other related quantitative field.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • At least one year related experience in a work or academic setting or demonstrated ability on significant graduate school project.
  • Experience performing biostatistical analyses, including categorical, longitudinal and survival data; SAS, STATA, and/or R programming; technical/scientific writing for medical publications to describe results and statistical methods required.
  • Prior experience with database management is preferred.
  • Other requirements include:
  • Ability to work independently and use reference manuals to develop proficiency with software or computer systems.
  • Good organizational, written and verbal communication skills in the preparation and presentation of results.
  • Good interpersonal skills in dealing with investigators and a “team-oriented” approach.
  • Able to effectively prioritize and work on multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines and demonstrate excellent time management skills and efficiency.
  • Required experience in statistical analysis including exploratory data analysis, regression modeling, survival analysis, and longitudinal data analysis.
  • Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:

    • Proficiency in SAS, STATA, and/or R programming; proficiency in other statistical programs, such as MPlus, is a plus.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
