Job Description Summary

Under general supervision, this position performs a wide variety of maintenance duties in order to provide a clean, orderly and safe environment; and perform related work as required in and around the University facilities. Troubleshoots, performs minor repairs and responds to emergency calls for service; implements setup and takedown for a wide variety of University events; works closely with employees and the public to meet the maintenance needs of the University; and resolves problems to ensure efficient and safe operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintenance Work

  • Performs a wide variety of general and semi-skilled maintenance activities (e.g. carpentry, painting, electrical) for completing projects within established time frames.
  • Removes trash in accordance with established procedures.
  • Cleans and preserves a variety of surfaces, using a wide range of chemicals according to state and federal regulations.
  • Handles and disposes of hazardous materials and blood borne pathogens with care.


Maintenance Requests

  • Receives, processes and resolves requests for routine maintenance needs.
  • Schedules, coordinates, directs and performs routine and comprehensive maintenance of assigned facilities.
  • Responds to emergencies during and after hours for resolving immediate safety concerns.


Preventative Maintenance

  • Performs preventative maintenance in and around facilities; manages/produces a calendar for routine maintenance (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and Landscaping).
  • Completes daily, weekly and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedure.


Machinery

  • Operates power equipment such as forklifts, carpet extractors, pressure washer, hand and power tools and campus vehicles.


Inventory

  • Maintains inventory and submits written requests for supplies; tests and evaluates new supplies and equipment.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of general safety protocol (OSHA) when operating/maintaining University equipment (chillers, boilers, etc.).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 75 lbs. unassisted), Bending, standing, climbing and walking.
  • Ability to work safely in an environment containing caustic chemicals, cleaning materials, dust and noise.
  • Ability to work under inclement weather conditions.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completion of a high school diploma or GED; any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described, including related work experience in one or more of the building trades.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Vocational or technical training/degree.


REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • This position requires a criminal background check, which may include a Level II screening as required by Florida Statute §435.04.
  • This position is subject to federal and state privacy regulations.


NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: This position is non-exempt (hourly). The normal work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., however, occasional overtime (weekends and evenings) may be required. Travel between campus locations may be required.

TARGET HIRING SALARY: $15.34 - $17.50/hr., commensurate with experience.
