Position Summary:

The CALS safety coordinator will be responsible for developing, supporting, managing, and promoting comprehensive multidisciplinary safety programs to maintain a safe and healthy environment for faculty, staff, students, and visitors in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS). The safety coordinator will report to the assistant dean for facilities, planning, health, and safety and work closely with the associate dean for research and graduate programs, the director of CALS Agricultural Research Stations, the senior associate dean, department chairs, center directors, faculty and other college team members. This position will be the CALS liaison to UW-Madison's Environment, Health and Safety department (EHS), and University Health Services (UHS).

Degree and Area of Specialization:

BS or higher degree preferably in an occupational safety area or a profession or science related to environmental health and safety.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

-Minimum 5 years of experience in an occupational or environmental health and safety role
-Demonstrated ability to create and foster a culture of safety
-Capability to deliver and evaluate safety programs including providing continuous improvements in a complex regulatory environment
-Ability to develop positive working relationships with diverse groups of individuals
-An understanding of the agricultural sector and the unique safety hazards it poses
-Strong organizational skills with demonstrated capabilities in planning and prioritizing tasks with the ability to be flexible in work assignments
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-A high degree of independent problem-solving and analytical skills
-Prior experience with conducting research laboratory safety inspections, hazard analyses, and hazard and operability studies is desired

License or Certificate:

Achievement of applicable licensure is also preferred.

Additional Information:

-Regular travel to off campus sites will be expected.
-A criminal background check is required for this position.
-A period of evaluation will be required.
