Position Summary:

The Adult Career and Special Student Services (ACSSS) office is one of seven admission offices at UW-Madison. This position has a dual focus: To manage admissions and enrollment of University Special students, as well as provide customer service to prospective and current students, division staff, and the community. The office serves as a gateway for adults who seek lifelong learning opportunities, as well as an important partner to campus units serving nontraditional populations. The position strengthens access to UW-Madison by processing student admissions, connecting with other units where appropriate, and providing excellent customer service.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

1. Thorough knowledge of complex admissions processes and ability to keep track of a range of requirements for various student populations. Ability to evaluate standard and non-standard student records.
2. Excellent ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with a broad base of constituents, including international students, adults returning to college after a significant gap in formal education, retired senior auditors, and adults in career or job transition.
3. A professional and positive attitude and problem solving abilities are essential.
4. Strong interpersonal skills; must enjoy working with the public, solving problems, and helping them access the University.
5. Proven organizational and multi-tasking skills, with attention to detail and accurate entry in a busy environment.
6. Ability to collaborate and work effectively as a team member.
7. Capacity to work independently and exercise good judgment in making decisions.
8. Must be able to demonstrate considerable initiative and resourcefulness while problem-solving on behalf of a student or given a software issue.
9. Track record of standard follow-through and timely completion of projects and tasks.
10. Ability to think critically and troubleshoot problems, especially those technical in nature.
11. Advanced computer skills and enthusiasm for learning new technological tools, with experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access), google docs, and database management, as well as ability to learn and use university based applications such as Qualtrics, SIS, InfoAccess, ImageNow.

Work Schedule:

Work hours for this position are 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m, Monday through Friday. May require occasional evenings (up to 5 per year).
