Position Summary:

The Grainger Engineering Design Innovation Laboratory is a set of design and prototyping facilities and interdisciplinary design programs for the College of Engineering. The lab consists of the following facilities:

- Makerspace (Wendt Commons)
- Kohler Visualization Studio (Wendt Commons)
- Design Studios (Wendt Commons)
- TEAM-Lab machine shop (Engineering Centers Building)
- Phil Meyer Automotive Center (Engineering Centers Building) and other Student Org shop spaces
- Composites Lab (Engineering Centers Building)
- Autonomous Systems and Robotics Laboratory (Engineering Centers Building)

This position would primarily focus on the facilities located in Wendt Commons though would collaborate with other team members to support the mission of the lab. This is an exciting opportunity to teach hands-on skills, strengthen interdisciplinary design and foster a creative learning environment.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's Degree in industrial design, engineering, art, architecture or related field.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

- 5 years of experience in design and/or design-related instruction.
- Experience with the maintenance and use of digital fabrication equipment (e.g. 3D printers, laser cutters) and a wide variety of materials, e.g., wood, plastic, metals, etc.
- Skill with a variety of machine tools and fabrication techniques, including the ability to maintain and repair the equipment.
- Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively with students, staff and faculty by explaining new and unfamiliar procedures and helping them find solutions to fabrication problems.
- An understanding of current safety procedures including the proper handling of tools, machinery and materials.
- Basic knowledge of microelectronics and programming.

The Manager of the Design and Prototyping Facilities within the Wendt Commons reports to the Director of the Grainger Engineering Design Innovation Laboratory.
