This full time Counselor position, Social Work Specialist, includes providing individual and group counseling, psychoeducational workshops, and contributing to the development and implementation of programming specifically focused on equity and inclusion. PCC counselors guide students in meeting their respective educational, personal, social and vocational goals, using judgment consistent with standards of the licensing board and state and federal guidelines, and based upon knowledge of counseling practices, methods, techniques, interpersonal relationships, and community resources. Counselors provide prevention, outreach and intervention services, and participate in committees and/or college service.

This position involves direct responsibility for the social work and basic needs branch of counseling services and applicants should be fully qualified to provide social work services including resource, referral, and care coordination.

  • Ability to provide brief, effective individual, group, and psychoeducational counseling and resource/referral services.
  • Evidence of experience organizing and/or leading a team of colleagues and/or interns.
  • Working knowledge of principles of social work supervision and an ability to engage in effective program design/implementation practices.
  • A clear and working understanding of issues of social justice, racism, oppression and bias, and the subsequent impact of these phenomena on PCC students.
  • Experience working in a college counseling center.
  • Demonstrated skills or training specifically focused on supporting the needs of students of color, students from indigenous communities, LGBTQIA students, international students, students from diverse religious affiliations, undocumented students, students with disabilities, first generation college students, and/or military veterans.


Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • Master's degree (or higher) in Social Work.
  • Two years of experience providing academic, mental health and/or career development counseling.
  • Qualified to provide clinical supervision to social work interns (per Oregon Board rules and regulations).
  • Unrestricted, active license to practice Social Work in the State of Oregon (or ability to gain reciprocal license by start date).


Starting Salary Expectations Initial Salary Placement up to Step 3 ($61,137) will be based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement. Position Grade Salary Range $57346 to $97136 Annual Salary FTE 1 PCC Benefits

A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049. PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.

Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions.

Temporary Full-Time Faculty are not eligible for Personal Leave Days, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, or AD&D Insurance.

Paid Leave:

  • 1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 days/year)
  • 21 hours of additional personal leave per year
  • 4 paid holidays (which occur during the term you are teaching)
