General Summary/Purpose

The Pediatric CardiologyNurse Coordinatorwould be a part of the care team to improve continuity of care for general cardiology patients, expand accessibility to accommodate urgent evaluation, establish subspecialty clinics, and ensure the Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Electrophysiology, and MRI programs run in a highly efficient manner. This role would be well suited to assist with care of complex congenital heart disease patients in a subspecialty clinic appointment.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

ACHD:

  1. Schedule and coordinate all testing ordered by ACHD providers. Follow up and ensure testing takes place in a timely fashion. Communicate problems with ordering providers.
  2. Communicate results from testing with patients after review by providers
  3. Be the primary face of the program for patients for general questions and communication between patients and providers.
  4. Obtain preapproval for medications and testing ordered by providers including completing required paperwork.
  5. Complete work excuses, return to work forms, preoperative clearance letters after discussion with providers.
  6. Attend clinic with providers and meet with patients at the time of visits after providers have seen patients to coordinate testing and ensure patient understanding and provide patient with printed instruction form (to be completed by providers).
  7. Monitor INR and titrate warfarin dosing for patients requiring chronic anticoagulation.
  8. Participate in patient education initiatives started by the ACHD program

MRI:

  1. Facilitate scheduling of cardiac MRI for adult congenital and pediatric CHD patients in EPIC
  2. Maintain Epic list (already created) of pending MRI orders
  3. Interface with patients to decrease no-show rate/increase patient satisfaction: provide reminder emails and phone calls, information about MRI visit, NPO instructions if anesthesia, coordinate Covid testing

Electrophysiology

  1. Call back results of Holter monitors, imaging studies, lab results, and medication changes as requested by Pediatric EP.
  2. Triage EP patient communications received via MyChart or telephone calls.
  3. Assist with completing medical forms, letters, school physical forms, emergency plans, AED requests and insurance requests for existing EP patients.
  4. Assist with medication refills as well as medication changes guided by the EP.
  5. Schedule routine and urgent EP procedures including pacemaker/ICD implants, EP studies and ablations, drug challenges, and ILR implants. This includes contacting anesthesia, contacting the device vendors and contacting 3D mapping service company.
  6. Provide pre-procedure instructions and schedule pre-procedure testing as needed (including Covid testing).
  7. Conduct post-procedure telephone follow-ups after implants and EP study/ablations
  8. Assist with device teaching/discharge teaching for patients who receive a PM, ICD or loop recorder and for post-ablation patients.
  9. Help with scheduling urgent cardioversions for adult congenital EP patients
  10. Serve as an EP resource/liaison for urgent inpatient and outpatient issues while the pediatric EP is in procedures. This will include obtaining pertinent background information and tracings and relaying information to the EP during available breaks.
  11. Help with communicating with families and the device companies when device recalls/alerts occur
  12. Provide continuity of care and communication with ACHD team for adult congenital patients with arrhythmias and/or cardiac devices.

Minimum Qualifications(Required)

Must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland,

    Bachelor's degree in nursing or related discipline preferred,
  • Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date,
  • Current CPR certification required.

Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in nursing or related discipline preferred.

Two (2) years of experience in the specialty or a related area desired.

(Pediatric specialty experience preferred)

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of EPIC, BLS, and Infusions/ transfusions.
