Job Summary

The Department of Integrative Physiology (IPHY) at the University of Colorado Boulder is pleased to encourage applications for an instructor position to begin fall 2021. This instructor will contribute approximately 50% instructional time to the IPHY curriculum and approximately 50% to the curriculum offered through the Public Health Certificate.

The initial appointment is a 100% position that corresponds to a “4/4” teaching load (4 courses per semester) for a term of three years and is renewable contingent upon satisfactory performance. The successful candidate will contribute to the public health certificate program using evidence-based innovative approaches; will assist in the development of new public health courses (e.g., Introduction to Public Health); and will be involved in the broad mission of enhancing health-focused curricula on the CU Boulder campus. Depending on expertise, the instructor will potentially teach more advanced courses, such as Introduction to Global Public Health and/or Introduction to Epidemiology. Examples of courses in IPHY’s curriculum that could be taught include to Introduction to Public Health; Biostatistics; Nutrition and/or Clinical Nutrition; Pathophysiology; Immunology; or developing a new Infectious Disease course.

The undergraduate Public Health Certificate is a highly interdisciplinary program spanning multiple academic departments and units across campus. The two core courses for the Certificate are offered through the Department of Integrative Physiology (Introduction to Epidemiology) and the Department of Geography (Introduction to Global Public Health). The Certificate is among the most popular and successful on campus with an enrollment of approximately 500 undergraduate students.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

• Depending upon academic background and qualifications, teach public health and health-related courses including (but not limited to) Introduction to Global Public Health, Introduction to Epidemiology, or Introduction to Public Health.
• Collaborate with department and campus partners on broader health-focused initiatives including the Public Health Certificate
• Support students with an interest in public health as they navigate coursework, internships and public health opportunities outside the classroom.
• Contribute to the curriculum of the Department of Integrative Physiology by teaching courses potentially including Biostatistics; Nutrition and/or Clinical Nutrition; Pathophysiology; Immunology; or Introduction to Infectious Disease (new course).

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this 100% position (4/4 teaching load) academic year (9 month) position is $58,000 - $62,000. There may be opportunities during summer sessions to teach additional courses on a per diem basis.

What We Require

• A conferred Doctorate degree (or international equivalent) in physiological sciences, public health, or a health-related field, or a Master’s degree in public health (MPH) and teaching experience in public health or a health-related field.

What We Would Like You To Have

• Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience in biological / physiological sciences and public health.
