Job Summary

The Office of Admissions at CU Boulder encourages applications for an Admission Specialist ! This position reports to a full-time staff member within Admissions who is responsible for the Office Services Team in Student Recruitment Services. This is a fixed-term, one-year contract position for a cohort of three specialists that has been crafted to give an immersive experience into the world of college admissions.

An Admission Specialist's primary role is to provide outstanding guest service to new and prospective students, their families, as well as current students. The Specialists work on the front lines of our department, staffing the front desk of our main office, meeting with prospective students, handling the bulk of email inquiries, assisting with phone calls, and supporting recruitment efforts. They are our team of professionals in all aspects of CU Boulder Admissions, and an ability to recall and expertly share nuanced information is important in this role (training provided).

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Staff Front Desk and Admission Administration
  • Provide admission-related information to prospective students, their families, and high school counselors by telephone, in-office appointments, and electronic correspondence.
  • Admission-related information includes advising on which high school and/or college courses and level of test scores a prospective first-year or transfer student needs in order to be eligible for admission to CU Boulder.
  • Guiding prospective first-year, international, and transfer students and their families through the admission process, admission requirements, and entry routes.
  • Help direct graduate students to appropriate resources and connections with their admission counselor.
  • Responsible for recording of official documentation such as transcripts or other admission-related materials, and act as a liaison with relevant parties in our operations department as needed.
  • Act as a liaison for different teams and departments to ensure that inquiries are advised to the appropriate resource.
  • Opening and closing of the main office (when we return to work on campus).
  • Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of Office of Admissions internal SharePoint sites.

Representative of CU Boulder
  • Train and become familiar with the information session presentation, for CU Boulder, and present as needed.
  • Conduct on-duty appointments on a backup basis.
  • Assist in outreach and recruitment programs.
  • Support events and recruitment efforts within an assigned team(s). As a Specialist, you will have to opportunity to learn about different populations of students and to have an impact on their college journey.
  • Potential opportunities to review first-year applications
  • Potential travel throughout Colorado to represent CU Boulder at college fairs and/or high school visits.


What You Should Know

We have been working remotely during the pandemic, but we are beginning a return to campus. This position will require you to be flexible and adaptable to operate in both a remote and in-person setting.

What We Can Offer

The salary for this position is $36,600.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university by the start of employment. Education substitution.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Some evening and weekend work is required.

  • Ability to work well with high school and college-age students as well as racially and ethnically diverse populations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
  • Familiarity with computing.


What We Would Like You To Have

  • Involvement in university clubs or organizations.
  • A recent graduate who has already represented a university in some capacity (for example, as a Student Ambassador, Resident Advisor, Orientation Leader, etc.).
  • Experience using SharePoint or related systems.
