The School of Communication at American University invites applications for a post-graduate Research Fellow appointment for Academic Year 2021-2022. The appointment is a 7-month term position and will begin September 1, 2021.

The Investigative Reporting Workshop, a nonprofit, professional news organization publishing at investigativereportingworkshop.org , and Washington's PBS FRONTLINE team based at the Workshop, have collaborated on the fellowship to provide an opportunity for nascent journalists and documentary filmmakers interested in research, reporting and writing.

Applicants for the fellowship must have completed their master’s in journalism, documentary film or related studies, or the equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field (communication, public policy, international relations, science and technology studies, media studies, information science, engineering, computer science, or law) before beginning the fellowship. Fluency in English is required. This is a research-focused fellowship and does not require teaching.

Salary is $29,000 and is grant-based; the position includes benefits. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled, subject to on-going budgetary approval.
