Who We Are

Mark Hernandez directs the Environmental Engineering Microbiology and Disinfection Lab at the University of Colorado. This lab focuses on the characterization and control of microbiological air pollution and microbially induced corrosion. The lab develops genetic, biochemical, and toxicological techniques to assess the efficacy of engineering interventions in sectors of sanitary engineering and industrial hygiene that are relevant to environmental health. There is a special focus on aerobiology science for wide-area surveillance, indoor cleaning technology, and the design of aerosol disinfection systems in the built environment.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The technician will execute tailored assays which support novel disinfection applications for the built environment – both in the lab and in the field. This includes the curation of pure cultures, trace analytical chemistry assays, optical recognition, PCR, and mammalian cell culture. Responsibilities also include the inventory and curation of environmental samples and the management and security of the supply chain to support laboratory operations.

What We Can Offer

  • $58,000 annual salary.
  • Term: 1-year minimum, renewable.

What We Require

M.S. degree in Chemical, Biological or Environmental Engineering, with lab-based research experience.

What You Will Need

  • Working knowledge of applied chemical engineering as relates to disinfection of aerosols and surfaces.
  • Robust analytical chemistry and cell culturing skills.
