Job Description

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is now hiring an Automotive Mechanic/Technician in the Facilities Management - Transportation Department at the Daytona Beach campus. The Automotive Mechanic/Technician will properly diagnose mechanical problems in University owned vehicles and grounds maintenance equipment, and make repairs as requested by Transportation Supervisor.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Make mechanical repairs as needed on all ERAU vehicles and lawn equipment.
  • Clean vehicles and equipment as needed.
  • Clean work areas.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures of the department, as well as APPMs of the University.
  • Road test all vehicles and equipment after repairs are made.
  • Perform electrical and acetylene welding, as needed.
  • Be able to work on a computer/iPad.
  • Auto body work and painting as required.
  • Supervise part-time/student employees as requested by the Foreman of Transportation.
  • This position may be subject to standing for long periods of time, working with hazardous materials, being on call, and long hours to complete/perform scheduled or emergency functions/projects.
  • In the event of a disaster, may be required to work during recovery operations and be exposed to outside elements, i.e., inclement or subtropical like weather.
  • Employee must take necessary precautions due to the nature of the equipment they are working on (gasoline powered equipment, etc.) to protect themself and those around them of the hazards associated with this type of work.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.


Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

  • High school (or GED) level ability in spelling, grammar, basic composition, and math.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, write information, and complete simple forms.
  • Auto mechanics training or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class “C” CDL.
  • Must meet the University’s standards for approved drivers. Unacceptable driving records (as stated in the Use of Equipment and Vehicles Procedure 1.17) include the following (for three years from the date of each occurrence):
  • More than 3 moving violations and/or accidents in 3 years
  • More than 2 moving violations and/or accidents in any 1 year
  • A major conviction in the last 3 years, including (but not limited to) driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, and/or homicide or assault by motor vehicle.
  • Must have automotive scanner and multi-meter experience.
