The Hollins Theatre Institute at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia invites applications for a one-semester visiting faculty costume designer for the fall 2021 term.

The Hollins Theatre Institute is ranked among the top ten best college theatres by The Princeton Review, and has earned multiple Kennedy Center Awards for innovative playwriting and production. Hollins University offers a B.A. in Theatre and M.F.A. in Playwriting with graduate certificates in musical theatre performance and arts management. The program values process-based methodologies that prepare students to be theatre artists and innovators for an equitable and diverse theater community.

The position will teach three classes in the undergraduate program: “Costume Design,” “Costume Construction,” and “Stage Makeup.” Other duties include designing and executing one main stage production and two smaller staged readings.

Candidates must have a M.F.A. in a theatre-related field, and recent M.F.A. graduates are encouraged to apply.

Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter; curriculum vitae; separate statement of teaching philosophy; a diversity, equity, and inclusion statement that addresses how their writing, research, teaching, and/or service experience will enhance the institution’s efforts to support these values and an increasingly diverse student population; links to creative work; three letters of recommendation (one of which must focus specifically on the candidate’s teaching experience and abilities); and graduate school transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable) to Theatre department chair Ernie Zulia atezulia@hollins.edu .
