We are excited to welcome into the Office of Student Life an Assistant Director for Leadership Programs. This position will oversee the Excellence in Leadership program, the Leadership Minor, Skills Infusion, and will directly supervise a Graduate Assistant.

Position Function

Plan and implement student leadership development experiences, programs, services and resources, including the Excellence in Leadership program, the leadership minor, leadership study abroad, and the Learner Experience Record. Promote the success of student organizations and their leaders, and support the mission of the Office of Student Life and Division of Student Affairs activities and actively promote the Student Experience Record to students.

Minimum Education

Master’s degree from an accredited university or college by the date of appointment.

Minimum Experience

One year of related experience.

Minimum Other

Skills in time management and meeting deadlines, attention to detail, exceptional customer service, planning, ability to execute a plan, leadership, excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills; creativity/vision.

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Master’s degree from an accredited university or college by the date of appointment in student affairs, college student personnel, higher education administration, counseling, or a related field.

Preferred Experience

One year of experience working with leadership development programs; in higher education settings with college students and student organizations; excellent oral and written communication skills.

Job Duty

Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate and provide ongoing professional development to support graduate assistants and student staff members. Ensure the execution of their responsibilities. Collaborate closely with relevant University stakeholders to develop a Student Experience Record that reflects the learning outcomes, competencies and transferable skills gained from curricular, co-curricular and intercollegiate athletic experiences.

Job Duty

Provide leadership and oversight for all Excellence in Leadership programs. Organize weekly class sessions, workshop series’, retreats, recognition events, orientation meetings, etc. Select, contract, and evaluate speakers for the Excellence in Leadership Speaker Series.

Co-coordinate the Leadership Minor, provide advising to students in the minor, and serve as the liaison to the Department of Educational Leadership. Serve as instructor of record for EIL affiliated EDHI courses (102, 202, 302, 401, and 402); develop syllabi that support course outcomes and curriculum, grade assignments, submit final grades, and maintain academic integrity of program.

Coordinate leadership development experiences for students and student organizations, such as the Beneficence Leadership Conference, the Student Organization Presidents’ Retreat, monthly student leader/advisor training workshops, and international study abroad leadership trip, etc. Develop and maintain the Leadership Resource Center.

Provide training and resources to ensure student participants, leaders, and organizations learn about and proactively manage risk, comply with university policies and procedures, safety and travel protocols and best practices for student-led programs and experiences.

Support the coordination of the Cardinal Leadership and Service Seminar (C.L.A.S.S.). Develop program curriculum and itineraries for C.L.A.S.S. Mentors and Mentees. Recruit, select, and train C.L.A.S.S. Mentors and Mentees. Partner with campus stakeholders to promote summer bridge programs and plan joint summer bridge program events including: speakers and evening activities.

Recruit, hire and orient Peer Involvement Mentors who connect students with academic programs and co-curricular experiences that promote the growth and development of transferable skills and competencies. Identify, recruit, and orient faculty and staff members to serve as Experience Fellows.

Support and co-advise Ball State’s Dance Marathon organization. Co-advise executive board members and assist with planning and implementation of the programming.
