Job Summary

The Campus Recreation Coordinator II coordinates the day-to-day operations of aquatic programs including lifeguard courses, swing lessons, and special events. This position has oversight of the Aquatics Center memberships and services.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but not limited to:

Coordinates events, programs, meetings, and activities within area of responsibility.

Develops and implements marketing and promotional materials, mailings, and surveys.

Collects and analyzes data to assess and evaluate programs and initiatives.

Monitors budgets and expenditures within assigned program area.

Assists in establishing and implementing procedures within area of assigned

responsibility.

Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus.

Supplemental Responsibilities:

Other job-related duties as assigned.

Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates Lifeguard Training and Water Safety Instructors. Maintains works schedules, timesheets, and payroll action forms.

Administers comprehensive swim lesson program including training and group and private lessons.

Acts as liaison between vendors and partners to ensure services can be provided timely and efficiently.

Coordinates and facilitates as needed safety trainings and certification courses for both public and campus groups.

Oversees the Aquatics Center membership promotion, sales, retentions, and services.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Recreation Management, Sports Administration, or closely related field.

Two full-time years of professional experience related to the position.

Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Experience operating a personal computer and proficient in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications or able to obtain within three months of employment.

Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Recreation Management, Sports Administration, or closely related field.

Two years of full-time professional experience in higher education campus recreation related to the position.

Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding or Water Safety Instructor certification or ability to obtain within six months of employment.

Knowledge of recreation, intramural sports, and fitness programming.

Knowledge of student intellectual, emotional and social development theory, techniques and research.

Knowledge of risk management standards and practices.

Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods.

Knowledge of marketing principles including promotion, fundraising, and public relations.

Knowledge of budget control principles, practices, and procedures.

Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects.

Demonstrated skill with scheduling, event planning, and logistics coordination.

Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of colleagues, students, and the general public.

Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved.

Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures consistently.

Ability to effectively manage the work of others by providing information, guidance, and motivation.

Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as necessary.
