Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
The mission of University Student Health Services is to provide quality outpatient medical care and public health services, which includes health education programming that empowers students to become full participants in their health care.
The Registered Nurse supports this mission by providing direct patient care, monitoring the AED and emergency drug box daily, managing the sterilization process for the department, and assessing and assisting with data entry of new student immunization records. The candidate should have a basic knowledge of immunization administration, schedules, storage and handling and the willingness to participate in a minimum of 6 in-services offered by Student Health to stay abreast of new treatments and processes in the healthcare industry.
This position is responsible for promoting a positive work environment through teamwork and collaboration with coworkers to meet the needs of the organization and patient through active participation in process changes, team meetings and work attendance.
Minimum Hiring Standards
-Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
-Knowledge of College Health, Women’s Health and/or Public Health, Adolescent Medicine, and Immunizations helpful. -Experience in outpatient or ambulatory care setting. Current skills for health assessment, wound care, ECGs and IV infusion preferred. -Ability to function independently in a fast paced environment and demonstrate initiative. Computer skills and prior use of an Electronic Health record, preferred.
-Laboratory skills preferred: phlebotomy and knowledge of basic laboratory principles.
-Ability to work in a diverse environment is required.
Preferred Hiring Standards
Registered Nurse training: Associate Degree, Diploma RN, or BSN required.; Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia, unrestricted as a Registered Nurse, CPR BLS certification.
