Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

The VCU Massey Cancer Survivorship Program is seeking to hire a PhD-level research scientist to build the Cancer Survivorship research portfolio. This is a non-academic research position with an administrative appointment in the Massey Cancer Center. Responsibilities will include the development, coordination, and supervision of cancer survivorship research conducted by Principal Investigators throughout the University. Responsibilities include:
• Collaborating with the Clinical Trials Office to develop and implement scientific protocols to oversee activities involved in the collection, compilation, documentation, and analysis of data
• Maintaining strict compliance with Good Clinical Practices ( GCP ) and all current laws, regulations, guidance, policies, and procedures developed by the Institutional Review Board ( IRB ); Code of Federal Regulations ( CFR ); and all federal, state, and local regulatory entities
• Oversight of active research protocols including data collection, consenting of research subjects, supervising other research personnel, and collaborating with VCU research faculty on other survivorship research efforts
• Working with the Director of Cancer Survivorship and other Principal Investigators to identify and assist in the preparation and submission of applications for internal and external funding sources
• Preparation and submission of research manuscripts

Minimum Hiring Standards

• Experience working in an academic medical environment
• Outstanding academic writing skills and demonstrated track record in writing peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and/or extramural grant submissions
• Development and management of research protocols and IRB submissions
• Excellent interpersonal skills; capable of interdisciplinary collaboration
• Supervisory and/or mentoring experience
• PhD in psychology, population science, health behavior or related field
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU .
