The Career and Professional Development Office’s goal is to realize the university mission toeducate women to lead and influencethrough support of student career success! The Career Specialist serves students and alumni in a wide range of majors through individual and group advising on a variety of topics such as: major and career exploration, internship and job search strategy, resume/cover letter/ interviewing prep, grad school planning, salary negotiation, and more. Additionally, the Career Specialist liaises with academic and student service departments across campus to promote and support career integration and career readiness for students.

Responsibilities:


  • Provide effective career counseling, programs and services to a wide variety of individuals with diverse needs and interests and enrolled in a broad spectrum of educational programs.
  • Take initiative to collaborate and partner with stakeholders across campus to understand specific career needs of students and alumni in order to design and provide tailored services to those populations.
  • Independently research and stay abreast of current information in career fields that students pursue, reviewing recruiting trends and career outcomes data, collaborating with employers, etc.
  • Create and update major and career field specific contents on various digital platforms including the career services website, handouts, etc.
  • Promote available resources, programming and career events to students and faculty.
  • Represent the Career Development Center at campus wide initiatives and events.
  • Train and support student workers, faculty, alumni, other offices, or etc. as needed
  • Engage students with diverse needs and busy schedules in a meaningful way.
  • Stay flexible in marketing and outreach strategies to adapt to new communication channels.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to update position-related skills.
  • Continuously adopt new and best practices for career services through active involvement in regional and national associations.

This position serves as liaison to academic departments to promote career integration and career readiness.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience coaching, advising, counseling students, or experience working in student activities, or in Human Resources or a related field
  • Experience successfully working with individuals with varying identities and backgrounds
  • Experience concurrently managing numerous tasks, some with conflicting priorities
  • Experience presenting information in a clear and concise manner and effectively engaging an audience
  • Experience establishing rapport and professional relationships with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve a common goal
  • Experience learning and navigating multiple digital platforms
  • Proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel/spreadsheet, and Google suite
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in counseling, student development, higher education or related field
  • One year of career counseling and career coaching experience in higher education or related setting
  • Experience working with students with diverse identities such as first-generation college students; students of various racial, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds; students from low-income families; students from rural communities;LGBTQstudents; and adult learners
  • Knowledge of career coaching and counseling techniques, career decision making, adult learning styles, and job search strategies
  • Experience in event planning (both in-person and virtual)
  • Experience in interpreting assessments including Strong Interest Inventory and Myers Briggs Type Indicator
