St. Catherine University nursing faculty educate students to develop the knowledge, technical skills, and professionalism they will need to be compassionate and successful nurses and leaders. Our nursing programs and curricula are delivered in an environment that embraces multicultural and social justice perspectives, relationships, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the liberal arts. We offer nursing degrees at every level and we offer a broad array of courses including clinical experiences. We search for excellent nurse educators in a variety of learning formats and with experience in different specializations. ThisAssistant Professorin the Simulation Lab plans, designs, implements and evaluates simulation-based learning across the continuum from standardized patients through low, mid, and high-fidelity simulations. Additionally, this role supports ongoing faculty development and coordination of simulation and lab activities across programs and departments.

Responsibilities:


  • Models and mentors relational presence that is rooted in Catholic Social Teaching and consistent with the mission and values of St. Catherine University and the DoN vision, mission, and philosophy.
  • Facilitates student learning in assigned courses by teaching and advising a diverse student population, modeling socialization to nursing roles, and referring students to appropriate University services.
  • Participates in recruitment, orientation, and advising activities according toPOS, DoN, and University requirements.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts/course coordinators in the development and implementation of high-quality simulation using Standards of Best Practice. This includes:

    • Creating preparatory documents, electronic health records, and pre-work requirements for students
    • Coordinating scheduling of students and faculty for simulation experiences
    • Developing preparatory faculty guides including prebriefing, scenario plan, debriefing, and assignments that foster the development of clinical reasoning, evidence based practice, cultural fluency, interpersonal communication, social justice, and unbiased care.
    • Facilitate/operationalize high fidelity simulation scenarios using a variety of modalities ensuring optimal learning. This includes highly technical mannequins, training of simulated patients, use of trainers, virtual products, and integrate a hybrid of modalities.
    • Utilize debriefing standards to optimize clinical reasoning
    • Integrate the use of assessment tools in simulation and lab activities
    • Implement the evaluation and review of simulation activities and programs
  • Collaborates with Information Technology professionals to design and deliver onsite, web-based or distance learning simulation experiences.
  • Engages in activities that promote positive relationships with students, faculty and professional colleagues, clinical and community agencies, alumnae, and other external groups.
  • Provides clear, timely, and specific evaluative feedback to students about course assignments and/or clinical performance.
  • Establishes, assesses and improves student learning outcomes through classroom and lab assignments and experiences and through clinical placements.
  • Engages in scholarship activities that develop expertise and ability to fulfill faculty responsibilities.
  • Serves onPOS, DoN, and/or University committees.
  • Collaborates with nursing faculty, Program Director, Associate Dean of Nursing, and Dean of Nursing to establish and accomplish short- and long-range goals for the nursing program.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Nursing
  • Licensed and unencumbered registered nurse in the State of Minnesota
  • Experience using healthcare simulation methodology
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate in education, health profession, or a related field
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator
