Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • High level of computer proficiency, including Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, online conferencing.
  • Ability to quickly learn technical advising tools including, but not limited to, Banner, DegreeWorks, DocuWare, Self-Service, Dashboard, and E-Print.
  • Evidence of excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational ability and attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and works well in a team environment requiring both ability to take initiative and work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Strong desire to work with a college-age student population and commitment to student success.
  • Exhibits commitment to execute all responsibilities with quality and excellence.
  • Exhibits high level of ethics, integrity, and professionalism in all dealings.
  • Exhibits strong work ethic and willingness and flexibility to assist with any task, as needed.
  • Exhibits commitment to sustainable work practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Walker College of Business Advising Center encourages and supports students as they develop the skills necessary to explore, create and pursue purposeful, realistic educational plans consistent with their academic, professional, and personal goals. The Academic Advisor is part of a team dedicated to this mission and responsible for providing a variety of services to business students to assist them with their academic plans and to support and encourage them as they work to achieve their academic goals.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting business students with developing appropriate and realistic academic plans, course selection, and monitoring academic progress.
  • Assisting students in academic trouble with strategies for achieving academic success.
  • Assisting with planning for semester or year-long study abroad programs, developing and executing programs for new and continuing students to disseminate information about academic programs and policies.
  • Auditing the records of seniors to assure all degree requirements will be met as they prepare to graduate.
  • Providing guidance to faculty and staff on student issues and academic policies.
Suggested Salary Range $45,000-$47,000 Physical Demands of Position
