A.T. Still University's Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) is seeking a Research Technician on the Kirksville, Missouri, campus. The position reports to the Senior Research Associate and is responsible for supporting the statewide survey of ticks and tick-borne disease research program in the Microbiology & Immunology Department.

Major Job Duties

  • Identify species and life stages of all Missouri ticks
  • Open received samples and record data into spreadsheets
  • Contact Missouri citizens who have incomplete submission forms
  • Assist in the isolation of DNA from ticks
  • Assist in running PCR's
  • Run PCR products on electrophoresis gels to visualize DNA bands


Skills or Experience

  • PCR work
  • Customer service
  • Tick identification
  • DNA isolation
  • Data entry
  • Experience with aseptic techniques and pipetting
  • Basic computer skills are useful
  • Experience in a lab is a plus
  • Experience working with ticks is a plus


Requirements

  • Some college with coursework including microbiology, biology, and mathematics
  • Must be able to learn to use a PCR machine, GelDoc system, and computer
