Utilizes product knowledge to determine the best manufacturing process for routine and special orders in order to produce top quality eyewear. Responsible for accurate and timely production of eyeglass lenses using a variety of materials, tools, and machines in the Essilor Optical Laboratory at the University of Houston.
  1. Receives and prepares work orders from Opticians; cut, polish and grind lenses for prescription glasses and install lenses into frames.
  2. Fabricate, groove and edge lenses in accordance with prescriptions using Briot lens edger for frame mounts.
  3. Ensures completion of one hour rush jobs as requested.
  4. Consult with patients concerning lens prescriptions, modifications and adjustments as needed.
  5. Verifies that lens fabrications and finished spectacles match optical prescriptions.
  6. Maintains lens and supply inventory on a daily and yearly basis.
  7. Responsible for basic operation, cleaning and ongoing maintenance of laboratory tools and equipment.
  8. Train students on lens fabrication in the optical laboratory.
  9. May serve as Optician assisting students and patients as needed.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

18 months and 1 year experience

Requires specialized training in basic trades, principles, procedures, practice, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be requirement.Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience.
