Assistant Director, Center for Student Involvement - (STA007311)



Provides leadership and coordination of one or more focus areas within the Center for Student Involvement; advises fee funded student organizations and/or special commissions/committees; and supervises professional staff and graduate students.

  • Manages and coordinates one or more focus areas within the department, providing leadership, technical support and effective management.
  • Advises one or more fee funded student organizations and/or special commissions/committees providing guidance on organizational development, program planning, event management, policy interpretation and implementation.
  • Provides assessment, long-term planning, and fiscal management to one or more fee funded student organizations and/or special commissions/committees.
  • Assists with budget planning, analysis, and reporting for the Center for Student Involvement.
  • Provides direction and supervision to professional staff, graduate assistants, and student workers, including evaluations, training and development.
  • Serves as a member of the leadership team for the Center for Student Involvement; participates in long-term planning and assessment in support of implementing the department's mission and vision; assists with annual reports and budget presentations.
  • Plans and implements programs, events, educational sessions and conferences; serves as committee chair for events.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications :

Bachelor's and 3 years experience.

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 yeaer degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Experience: Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience. Certification/Licensing: None.

Additional Information:

  • Directly coordinate and advises an active university sponsored organizations, Frontier Fiesta and Homecoming. This role is highly involved in advising the student leaders in executive and board roles, budget oversight, serves as a liaison between the Center for Student Involvement and steering committees, and partners with campus and academic departments.
  • Supports the development and implementation of the Nights and Weekends initiative through the department to create engaging experiences on a regular and ongoing basis.
  • Provides support for the oversight and management of the Student Program Board and the Council for Cultural Activities, and their respective budgets.
  • Provides effective and meaningful training for university sponsored organization student leaders on event planning, risk management, organizational management, and leadership development.
  • Keeps up to date with university contracting procedures and policies to ensure that appropriate steps are taken during the event planning process.
  • Participate in the implementation and staffing of large-scale events requiring the presence of Center for Student Involvement staff such as, but not limited to, Frontier Fiesta, Homecoming, Move-in Weekend, and Cat’s Back. Frequent nights and weekends required.
  • Supervises an Activities Coordinator and two graduate assistants that assists with the advising and functioning of the Student Program Board, Council for Cultural Activities, Frontier Fiesta, and Homecoming and other departmental programs.
  • Assist with creating a strong marketing plan and process for university sponsored organizations to ensure that branding and Division expectations are being met for event planning.
  • Serve as a member of the leadership team for the Center for Student Involvement, including collaborating on long-term planning and assessment, jointly conducting staff training, and assisting in the creation of annual reports and the Student Fee Advisory Committee budget report and presentation.
  • Serve on University and Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services standing and ad hoc committees and taskforces.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Degree(s) Required

Bachelor’s Required. Masters in Higher Education Personnel, or related field, preferred.

Special Skills and Knowledge

Knowledge of and ability to implement student development theory.

Environmental/Working Conditions

Frequent night and weekend work. Must be able to lift approximately 30lbs. Must be able to stand and remain active for extended periods of time.

To: Varies, nighttime meetings and events

Saturday: Events at different times of year, not consistently
